Behind the Scenes: YMCA Kid's Club

"Working with IDVideo on this project was a wonderful experience. It challenged me think about how we tell the story and who we want to know our story; it stretched my skills professionally to not talk about features of a program, but let the story unfold and speak for itself. It has been very impactful whenever I show the video; in fact, looking forward to producing another one with Greg!"

It’s these Kids Clubs where the best work of the YMCA is evident – its where we really have an impact in providing programs for spirit, mind and body FOR ALL – regardless of age, race or income. This story is one that is untold, even among staff and those volunteers closest to the YMCA. We felt it was important to tell – in living our mission – and showing the community that we continue to answer community needs, just as we did 150 years ago when the YMCA first opened.

The Y’s impact in our community extends well beyond our gyms and pools. The Y is the largest provider of health and well-being, family strengthening, youth development and social responsibility programs in Erie County. There is rarely an instance in a person’s life in which the Y does not play a role.

The Y removes barriers to health and wellness, aids youth development, assists personal achievement, and gives a direct connection to nature in the midst of a harried society. To a family, we might be their favorite pool. To a child, we might be their best friend. To an adult, we might be the second chance they so desperately need. All in all, we’re in the business of human potential.

We are grateful to Bob Wooler / The Nonprofit Partnership for their "Story Project: Video Edition" grant which helped make this possible.
